There are some side effects / unintended consequences (ha!) of travelling down this less-travelled road, some of which relates to ...

Loneliness (because there are fewer designers around to talk about complicated, advanced stuff like this).

Navigating and complex gap between critical thinking and critical doing (eventually, something needs doing).

Challenges in translation, clarity, coherency, communication, and collaboration bridging perspectives from these advanced topics and subject domains with diverse groups of people who have very different worldviews, skills and experiences.

But all in all, I still think it's a worthy investment down this road. I'm definitely not regretting it, even though it's really challenging.
